EQE vs EQS: which electric Mercedes-Benz SUV should you buy?

By Alfredo, sales consultant at Mercedes-Benz of Pompano · Updated October 15, 2026

The EQE SUV and the EQS SUV look alike, but they're different sizes with different standard equipment. The EQS SUV is the bigger, fully loaded one: a larger battery, room for an optional third row, and air suspension, rear-axle steering and the MBUX Hyperscreen as standard. The EQE SUV is smaller and lighter, and in rear-wheel-drive form it gets almost the same EPA range.

Range and battery

The EPA rates the 2027 EQE 320+ SUV, with rear-wheel drive and a 96.0 kWh battery, at 302 miles. The all-wheel-drive EQE 320 4MATIC SUV has a 90.5 kWh battery and is rated at 253 miles.

The EQS SUV carries a 118 kWh battery. The EPA rates the EQS 400 4MATIC SUV at 312 miles and the EQS 550 4MATIC SUV at 317. So the EQS SUV goes about 10 to 60 miles farther than an EQE SUV, depending on which EQE you compare it with.

On a 240-volt home charger, the EPA puts a full charge at about 11.5 hours for the EQE 320+ SUV, 10.75 for the EQE 320 4MATIC and 14 for the EQS SUV.

EPA-estimated range
  1. EQE 320 4MATIC SUV253 miles
  2. EQE 320+ SUV302 miles
  3. EQS 400 4MATIC SUV312 miles
  4. EQS 550 4MATIC SUV317 miles
  5. EQS 500 4MATIC Sedan443 miles

2027 models, EPA estimates. Higher is farther. [7][8]

Power and acceleration

Both EQE SUVs make 315 hp. The rear-drive 320+ has 416 lb-ft and reaches 60 mph in 5.9 seconds; the 320 4MATIC has 564 lb-ft and takes 6.2 seconds.

The EQS 400 4MATIC SUV makes 355 hp and 590 lb-ft and also does 0 to 60 in 5.9 seconds while weighing nearly 800 lbs more than the EQE 320 4MATIC. The EQS 550 4MATIC SUV makes 536 hp and 633 lb-ft and gets there in 4.6 seconds.

Space and seats

This is the biggest difference. The EQE SUV seats five and has 14 cu ft of cargo space behind the rear seat, 55 with it folded. The EQS SUV has 23 cu ft behind the second row and 74 folded. It also offers third-row seats, which the EQE SUV doesn't.

Both 4MATIC versions are rated to tow 3,500 lbs. Mercedes-Benz USA doesn't list a towing rating for the rear-drive EQE 320+ SUV.

What the EQS SUV has as standard

Comparing Mercedes-Benz USA's standard equipment lists, the 2027 EQS 400 4MATIC SUV includes these, which the EQE SUV either offers as options or doesn't offer:

  • The MBUX Hyperscreen, one glass panel across the whole dash with screens for the driver, the center and the passenger. It's an option package on the EQE SUV.
  • AIRMATIC air suspension. It's a stand-alone option on the EQE SUV, which comes standard with adaptive damping.
  • Rear-axle steering of 4.5 degrees, which tightens the turning circle to 39.0 feet against the EQE SUV's 40.4
  • Burmester 3D Surround Sound. It's an option on the EQE SUV.
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Heated, power-adjustable second-row seats and rear wireless charging

Where the EQS Sedan fits in

If you don't need an SUV, the EQS Sedan is the long-distance car of the family. Its slippery shape lets it go much farther on a charge: the EPA rates the 2027 EQS 500 4MATIC Sedan at 443 miles and the EQS 580 4MATIC Sedan at 434.

The EQS 580 4MATIC Sedan makes 576 hp and gets to 60 in 3.9 seconds. Its turning circle is 35.8 feet, tighter than either SUV's. For 2027, Mercedes-Benz USA lists the EQE as an SUV only.

The EQE 320+ for range, the EQS for room

The EQE 320+ SUV if you want strong range in a five-seat size that's easy to park in a South Florida condo garage. Choose the 4MATIC if you want all-wheel drive or need to tow, and accept the shorter range.

The EQS SUV if you need the third row, want the Hyperscreen and air suspension without hunting for a car that has them, or want the roomier cabin. The EQS Sedan if your trips run long, Miami to Orlando and back, and you'd rather stop less.

Sit in both before you decide. You'll notice the size from the driver's seat right away, and the air suspension on the first bumpy stretch of road.
